Password protecting you Blackberry keeps your personal information secure should you lose or have your handset stolen. Entering your Pin incorrectly 10 times will automatically wipe your handset.
NOTE: this does not protect your SD card which can store media such as pictures and videos.
| 1 | Press the 'Blackberry Button' [Blackberry Logo] to go to your main menu |
| 2 | Scroll down to 'Options' (spanner icon) |
| 3 | Select 'Password' |
| 4 | Now change the top password to 'Enable' |
| 5 | Scroll to 'Set Password' and select. |
| 6 | Now type a new password and then verify by entering again |
| * You can alter the time it takes before your handset automatically locks and requests your password by changing the security timeout option (default is 2 minutes) | |
| 7 | Press the blackberry button and select 'Save' |
Should you need to wipe all information from your handset whether you no longer want the handset or need to send it back for repair you can perform the following:
| 1 | Press the 'Blackberry Button' [Blackberry Logo] to go to your main menu |
| 2 | Scroll down to 'Options' (spanner icon) |
| 3 | Select 'Security Options' |
| 4 | Select 'General Settings' |
| 5 | Press the 'Blackberry Button' [Blackberry Logo] |
| 6 | Select 'Wipe Handheld' |
| 7 | You will then be prompted to type the word 'blackberry' to confirm |
This will make a copy of the entire contents of your blackberry including contacts, messages and media stored on the device. Make sure you have the Latest Blackberry Desktop Software on your computer (see loading blackberry desktop software (link))
| 1 | Open up the Blackberry Desktop Manager |
| 2 | Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable provided |
| 3 | You may be asked if you would like to turn on Mass Storage Media Mode > Select NO |
| 4 | If your device has a password lock you will be asked to enter this > Please Note should your password for example be 1234, it may actually be the letters wers when typing into your computer. |
| 5 | When connected your device should show your device PIN in the bottom left hand corner. |
| 6 | The desktop manager will then check your device for the latest handset software > you can select to update now (may take upto half an hour)> or press cancel to do this another time. |
| 7 | Now select Back up and Restore > Back-Up |
| 8 | Select a folder where you would like the file to be stored > the file will be automatically named as todays date (change this if you wish) > SAVE |
| 9 | The back-up file was successfully created |

| 1 | Open up the Blackberry Desktop Manager |
| 2 | Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable provided |

| 5 | When prompted please connect your new device > select OK |
| 6 | Data will now be transferred to the new device. |

Start by downloading the latest desktop software from the following link that applies to your computer:

| 2 | Click Download > Select SAVE |
| 3 | Choose a folder where you would like to save the desktop software > SAVE |
| 4 | The software may take 10 minutes or so to download > |
| 5 | Once Downloaded > Select RUN |
| 6 | Choose the language you would like to run the software in |
| 7 | You will then be taken through the Installation Wizard > NEXT |
| 8 | Select which region you are in > Default United Kingdom > NEXT |
| 9 | Accept the terms and conditions > NEXT |
| 10 | Select the destination folder > NEXT |
| 11 | Select the type of set-up > Typical (Recommended) > NEXT |
| 12 | To manage media select Media sync and Media Manager (Optional) > NEXT |
| IMPORTANT - If you are unsure please contact us before proceeding | |
| 13 | Unless you are running on a company BES server - please select Intergrate with a personal email account (even if you are using a works email on your blackberry device) > NEXT |
| 14 | It is recommended that you uncheck the first option > Start Blackberry Desktop Software Manager automatically each time the computer starts. |
| 15 | INSTALL |
| 16 | The desktop software will be installed to your computer > FINISH |
| 17 | You will now be asked to Restart your computer > Yes Now (Recommended) |
